Mariposa lily after a spring shower.  I captured this image about two years ago on an accidental outing with my son as we foolishly attempted to drive our family sedan up the Benbow Mine road just outside of Dean, Montana.  As I prodded the protesting car up the ridiculously steep hill and it began to spew steaming antifreeze from under the hood, we decided it would be a good time to get out of the car to stretch our legs.  We pulled over and propped up the engine cover to let it cool off for awhile.

We suddenly found ourselves time to kill, so we wandered through a nearby field of wildflowers for a few well-spent hours, snapping close-ups and losing ourselves in the amazing intricacies of these flowers.  Who knew there was a whole world hiding right under our noses?  And to think it took this minor inconvenience for us to discover it…
