Photo of the Week: May 7, 2012

The Fremont River flows peacefully along its grassy banks beneath towering Navajo sandstone bluffs in Capitol Reef National Park.

This river is was a source of irrigation water that made farming possible here. The small Mormon community of nearby Fruita depended primarily on fruit sales for income, but they also raised other crops, such as vegetables, alfalfa, and sorghum.
