Can you name this brown butterfly?
Identifying butterflies can be challenging. I spotted the one pictured here roosting atop the tiny white flowers of a yarrow plant while hiking earlier this summer in Smith Rock State Park. I believe it to be a Moss’s Elfin, (Callophyrs mossi). This variety prefers to habituate on rocky outcrops or cliffs where males perch on shrubs and watch for females.
