Textures of Mammoth Hot Springs

At Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park, steaming hot water rises through underground fissures and combines with calcium carbonate to form the magnificent terrace features this part of the park is known for.

These up close photos of the terrace surface features reveal a sort of fractal geometry phenomenon happening here, whereby the larger-scale terrace characteristics share self-similar topological traits of the smaller-scale features which they are composed of.
